Here’s my inaugural voyage on the American Shoreline Podcast Network where we try to show the diverse stakeholders of the shore how they are related and interconnect. My assignment? Explain to those on shore how the shipping world works and affects shore life.
Here, I interview Andrew Maykuth, writer for The Philadelphia Inquirer, about the monumental effort to dredge the Delaware River channel so that larger ships can reach the ports of Philadelphia. It sounds simple — but in the end requires explosives, courtesy to sturgeons, and specialized dredge ships and equipment.
And then of course, there’s the affect of “dredge spoils” on the environment.
Hope you enjoy it.
