Here’s my second podcast — a conversation with “mud diver” Michael Carr. Michael and I go back to the wreck of the SS Marine Electric — at least in spirit. He was a Coast Guard diver at a time before the Coast Guard had rescue swimmers. Michael told his commanding officer he was getting in the chopper to help rescue the crew of the Marine Electric. The commander said “no way.” Three rounds of colorful language after that and eventually Michael stood down and avoided a court martial. (The Coast Guard shortly after the Marine Electric added its now famous rescue swimmer branch.)
More than 30 years later, he’s still pretty peppy. Hope you enjoy this second of my ventures into podcasting on Coastal News Today..--Bob Frump
