The Difference Between Biden’s Blarney and Malevolent Malarky
When I was a kid reporter aged 27 covering Joe Biden, a newly minted Senator at age 30, I asked a wise old public relations person — working for one of Biden’s rivals — why Joe got so carried away in embroidering stories and why people cut him a break when he did.
“Yeah, he does, that” the guy said.
“But there’s a difference between well-intended blarney and malevolent malarky.
“Joe may get carried away but it’s all toward a sincere point about something he sincerely believes — and people sense that.
“On the other hand XXXX just dishes out lies that hide real truths and issues — in other words, he’s full of malarkey.
“People know the difference between Biden’s blarney and the other guy’s malarkey,” he said.
“They know Joe’s blarney may not always be factual but it’s truthful about how he feels and what he will do, if that makes any sense.”
